For Parents
Complaints and Grievances
We encourage parents and athletes to communicate concerns. Understanding the difference between a complaint and a formal grievance helps ensure concerns are addressed through the appropriate process.
Complaint:
A complaint is an expression of dissatisfaction or disagreement regarding a decision, situation, or outcome.
Examples:
- Playing time
- Position assignments
- Lineups or coaching decisions
- Practice structure
- Tournament schedules
A complaint is typically based on a difference of opinion or personal dissatisfaction and can often be resolved through respectful communication.
Formal Grievance:
A formal grievance is a written allegation that a club policy, rule, code of conduct, or established procedure has been violated.
Examples:
- Violations of the club handbook or code of conduct
- Athlete safety concerns
- Harassment, bullying, or discrimination
- Misconduct by a coach, player, parent, or staff member
- Failure to follow established club policies
A formal grievance must be submitted in writing and include specific facts, dates, and details regarding the alleged violation.
Key Distinction:
- Complaint: "I disagree with or am unhappy about a decision or situation."
- Formal Grievance: "I believe a policy, rule, or standard has been violated and request a formal review."
Not all complaints constitute formal grievances, and disagreement with a coaching decision alone does not qualify as a formal grievance. The club will review and address concerns through the appropriate channels and procedures.
Positive Culture and Parent Conduct Policy
Rising Tide Volleyball Club is committed to maintaining a positive, supportive, and unified environment for all athletes, coaches, and families. Negativity, gossip, and behavior that undermines team culture will not be tolerated.
Parents are expected to support club and coaching decisions, even when they may personally disagree with them. Concerns should be addressed respectfully through the club's established communication process, not through sideline conversations, group texts, social media, or discussions with other families.
Parents should not discuss disagreements regarding coaching decisions, playing time, positions, lineups, or team strategy with their athletes. These conversations can create confusion, damage trust between athletes and coaches, and negatively impact team culture.
We expect all families to model respect, accountability, and teamwork. Families whose actions create a divisive or negative environment may be subject to review and corrective action by the club.
Our goal is to provide an environment where athletes can develop, compete, and thrive while learning the value of trust, commitment, and teamwork.
